Hok Bao "Hopie" (Chen) Woodland, 85, a lovely lady to many, went to be with the Lord on March 30th, 2015 in her home in Naples, FL.

She was born in Baltimore, Maryland to Chinese immigrants, Dr. Chao Ming Chen and Hsiu Lien Chen.

Hopie's love for her parents always topped the list of conversation, and she never lost sight of the beautiful memories her parents' lives created for her and her family. She graduated from Eastern HIgh School in 1947. Her yearbook profile described her as "a China Doll, personality plus, extremely popular, friendly, lovable, and always laughing." Hopie kept those qualities throughout her life. Her family would add the words, "loving, kind, generous, dynamic, romantic, and always an encourager. Known for her infectious smile and friendly greeting, "Hi Hon," she always left people feeling loved and special.

No one was a stranger to her. Hopie married Carl H. Woodland in 1953, and raised five children. They moved their family to Marathon, FL in 1970, and operated their business, Driftwood Creations. They moved to Naples, FL in 1997. Hopie was widowed after 44 years of marriage, and remained in
Naples with her children and grand-children.

Hopie loved fashion, and she was never without ruffles, furs, or jewelry. Planning fashion shows, Chinese New Year bashes, and dinner parties were all part of the great entertainer of people she was. She never missed the chance to tell stories of her favorite baseball team, the Baltimore Orioles. Her pastimes
included sports, Bingo, shopping, letter writing, and eating hot fudge sundaes!

A 30 year cancer survivor, Hopie never let it get her down. She was always the life of any party, and her memory will continue to fill any room with laughter,
love, and smiles.

Hopie was predeceased by her oldest son, Kevin, in 2013. She is survived by her other children: Sue (Bill) Macon of Naples, FL, Robin Woodland of Marathon, FL, Carl (Carol) Woodland of St. Pete, FL, and Wendi Leigh Darragh of Naples, FL; four grandchildren: Kristin (John) Cipolla, Brittany (Gaurav) Gupta, Geno Macon, Katie Darragh, and Carlie Darragh, four great-grandchildren: Johnny Mac, Kyle, Lexi, and Kalee Cipolla. She is also survived by
her loving sisters: Hok Hui Eng of Champaign, IL, and Hok Hua Lincoln of Rockville, MD, a sister-in-law, Jeanne Lanciotti of Finksburg, MD, her nieces and nephews: Jade (Rob) Wagner, Lisa (Rick) Gundling, Kathy (Don) Jestes, Ric (Barb) Lanciotti, Earl Hughes, and Mark Hughes, her great-nieces and great-nephews: Janine Burke, Johnny Burke, Valerie Wagner, Max Gundling, Jeremy Jestes, Kasia Siefert, and many close and special friends.

The family will receive family and friends for funeral services on Saturday, April 4, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Hodges Funeral Home at Naples Memorial
